Through original poetry, evocative imagery, and intimate soundbites, it weaves together a meditation on melanin, identity, and self-definition — celebrating what has too often been diminished or overlooked.

In 1939 Mamie Clark set four dolls in front of Black children and asked them which one was good, which one was bad, and which one looked like them. You watch what they answered. Then four dolls are set in front of you — and none of them are white.
Then we ask you: what was the word they used?

Three goddesses — Ebora, Sefara, Luminara — guide a fifty-scene passage in four acts, from a celestial origin to awakening and celebration. The personal map of return, walked at your own pace.
You won't have to prove it here. Once a month, women of your shade gather to speak what was said to them — and to be believed. Between circles, the sanctuary app holds the work.

A two-day live virtual circle for twelve women. On Day One, walk the installation Who Told You Your Black Is Not Beautiful? together and return to the circle after each mirror room to be witnessed. On Day Two, turn your own words into art and close with a Ceremony of Recognition. Enrollment is by application. Applications open December 1.
